obama is a superior or turk. i think mitt romney is a better debater. romney, you know, we saw something that we had not seen in a long time. it occurred to me that this reminded me more of the mitt romney i met in 1994 when he was running for the senate and came by and met with me and was incredibly an impressive and analytical and fact driven and pragmatic. this was that guy, not so much the person who had been pretending to be an ideologue for the past few years. obama seemed to be like a team sitting on a lead. i would not have said smog it, i would have just said somebody who did not seem to be terribly hungry for it. -- i would not say smug, just somebody that was not hungry for it. i did not really big in these examples after, i do not particularly care for them. -- these instant polls, i didn't care for them. when you see who did the best job, obama 25, romney 67. obama did better than expected 21%, worse than expected 61%. romney did 82% better than expected, at 10% said they thought he did worse than they expected. my guess is the 10% or partisans. democracy first, a democratic

, so of the debate watchers have noted, president obama didn't bring it up in the debate when he had a chance, talking about the economy, talking about all these folks who are unemployed or underemployed, and it would seem to indicate that president obama was saying that this was not worth pursuing. he certainly had used it on the campaign trail. it's been used in ads. but standing there on the debate stage, he apparently made the choice that it was unworthy of him and unworthy of the audience. will joe bidenring it up next week in his vice presidential debate? he may. we'll find out. >> it might have been a strategy, too. maria what do you think? >> i actually think it was a missed opportunity, randi. he should have brought it up. but i will guarantee you that democrats, including joe biden, will absolutely continue to bring it up, because after he said he thought he was wrong, or before he said he thought he was wrong, he doubled down on those remarks two or three times before he realized it was really hurting him in the polls. and we're talking about latinos this morning. majority

in between. going into this debate, this really was not and in between the situation where president obama was ahead. governor romney desperately needed to shake this race of. something had to change the trajectory and this election. it needed to be something very substantial. here we are now at this momentous event. it was in the realm of debates. this is certainly much more decisive, i think, then pretty much any other debate that any of us can remember. i thought governor romney did a fabulous job on both a relative basis. quite fabulous and on a nominal basis. he did very well. i think it is true to say that superiorbama is 8 superia orator and i think mitt romney is a superior debater. it occurred to me that this reminded me of the mitt romney i met in 1994 when he was running for the senate. he met with me. he was incredibly impressive and fact driven. he was a very pragmatic. obama seemed like -- i wouldn't say smug, but someone who did not seem terribly hungry for it. i do not think there is any question that when you look at some of the -- and i am not really big on these polls --

month. this is a big symbolic lift for the obama campaign after that really bad debate. they had the jobs numbers on friday and this today. it helps the campaign reassure their base and their supporters that hey, things are going on track. jim messina, the obama campaign manager sent out an e-mail touting the numbers. it reassures the base, saying forget about the debate. the people are with us and we have the money to carry the campaign forward. >> sometimes timing is everything. how crucial is this boon in cash collections with just a month to go before election day? >> it's tremendous. again, the debate was one thing, but the campaign is being waged in a series of battleground states on television airwaves, in mailboxes. really trying to reach voters. the romney campaign has said they have been saving up a bunch of money for this last sort of stretch. this money also shows that the obama campaign really can count on small donors and online fund-raising and raising money from text messages. they had started doing that this year, too, in a way that the romney campaign cannot. re

rasmussen poll gives president obama a one-point advantage nationally. basically across the board in the polls that matter, in the states that matter, the obama campaign is ahead. things could change. we've got the debate starting next week. it's a long way to go, it's politics. anything could happen. right now the obama campaign is solidly and consistently ahead. tactically what that means is the obama campaign has to convert being ahead in people's preferences to actual votes. since they are clearly ahead a good time to get those votes cast is right now. because thanks to early voting people are casting ballots right now. so this lead that they would in the polls can be turned into actual votes while they're still ahead even if they don't end up being this far ahead by election day. iowa became the first swing state in the nation where voters are actually voting early in person. iowa has these really interesting rules where if you get enough signatures from your area you can ask to have a pop-up polling place. sort of like if food trucks offered voting. obama supporters arranged
